Error “0x00000709” and how to fix it

If the error “0x00000709” unexpectedly appeared during printer installation, then you should not despair and spend money on calling the wizard, because first you can try to fix this problem completely yourself. The source of its occurrence is a failure in the registry settings, in which priority is given to the previous settings that relate to the old printer. That is why, when a new device is connected, the system issues an error code 0x00000709 “check the printer name” and refuses to install it.

To properly connect the installed printer and bring it into full working condition, you will have to manually edit the registry. But to complete this task, you will definitely need to make a backup copy of the Windows operating system installed on your PC:

  • Open the Start menu and type “regedit.exe” in the search bar.
  • At the very top of the list of answers, the option you need will appear, on which you need to right-click in order to run it as administrator.
  • In the window that opens, go through the “File” to the “Export” item.
  • Enter the file name, and then select the path where you will save the copy of the registry.
  • In the end, you just have to click on “Save”.

To make a normal connection between the printer and your PC and fix the error code “0x00000709”, please read the following instructions:

  • Run regedit.exe again if you closed it after the previous step.
  • Starting at the very top, find the name “HKEY_CURRENT_USER” and click on it to expand the entire list (tree). Then follow the following path: “Software” => “Microsoft” => “Windows NT” => “CurrentVersion” => “Windows”.
  • Finally, having reached the very last item in the panel located on the right side of the registry window, right-click on the line called “Device” to select the “Change” item.
  • The very first name in the line means the name of the device, which is currently installed by default. Erase it before “, winspool, Ne00:”, which must be left. Enter the name of the new printing device before the comma. After that click on “OK” to save the change.
  • If unexpectedly during saving a window opens with an error message stating that the current key cannot be edited, then click on “OK” and right-click on the current folder “Windows” to select “Permissions”. After that, a new window will appear in the right window, where you need to check the box next to the “Full access” item, then click on “OK” and repeat the previous step.

Error “0x000006ba” and its elimination

Sometimes, it can be quite difficult to install a printing device via a local network. this is associated with the appearance of various errors, for example, “0x000006ba” – the local printing subsystem is not running. Try the following to resolve this issue:

  • Run the Add Printer Wizard.
  • Select the “Add a local printer” item during installation and put a check mark next to the item that implies the creation of a new port.
  • Now you need to select “Local Port” in the port type and click on “Next”.
  • In the “Port name” window, enter the device address in the local network in the appropriate line in the following form: . Click on the “OK” button.
  • In the printer driver installation window, select the desired device to connect to and install the appropriate software for it.
  • Clicking on “Next”, try to connect to the newly installed printer and make a test print of any document.

If this instruction did not help you and the error “0x000006ba” still appears when you try to install a printing device via a local network, then first open the PC control panel and go to the “Uninstall the program” section. Then follow these steps:

  • Click on “Turn Windows features on or off” – this item is located on the left side of the window that opens.
  • In the list that appears, click on “Print and Document Services”.
  • Find the “Internet Printing Client” item and uncheck it.
  • Select the check boxes for LPD Print Service and LPR Port Monitor.
  • To save the changes, click on “OK” and restart your computer.
  • In the end, you just have to try to install the new printing device again.
